FAA ATPL to JAA ATPL conversion
« on: 27 February 2011, 21:56:24 »
I have over 1500 MPA PIC experience as a FAA ATPL and I would like to convert to a JAR Frozen. Just a few questions:
1. IS the JAR frozen basically a CPL with IR rating? If so, can I take the skills test without any training. The FCL doesn't require a minimum number of hours for conversion applicants with Instrument ratings, so do you have an examiner at your school who I can take an assessment flight with and who can sign me off to take the exam?

2. Where are the written theory tests conducted and how often do they have them?

3. Is it possible with my experience to take a type rating check ride in a simulator for the ATPL skill test, without enrolling in a full type rating course. I would like to do just the skill test?

4. I understand that I also qualify to take the theoretical exams without a FTO endorsement. Where do I get the paperwork to apply for the theory exams without being endorsed?

Thanks for your help and comments! 8)

Hello,

Indeed, since you are above 1500FH you are qualified to go directly to CAA and pass exams and skill test.
To first question - frozen ATPL is completed ATPL theory + CPL w. IFR/ME/complex aircraft
2. written exams in CAA

I would recommend to contact the CAA directly, since lots of answers indeed depend on your experience and the understanding of CAA. Then with their oficial answer and recomendations, if any training needed which we can provide, you can apply for training in our school.
